Seattle Center Skate Park

Seattle Center Skate Park

Seattle, WA

Seattle Center Skate Park is located at the southwest corner of what is considered by many to be the city’s premier public event and gathering destination. In addition to pleasing enthusiasts of the sport, the Skate Park facility also serves as a public plaza.

By intention, the design is unique: “skateable” glass wall panels add visual interest and the whole is constructed on top of Key Arena’s auxiliary roof (with ventilation shafts from the arena’s catering kitchen doing “double duty” as art elements).

The skate park’s concrete surfaces are constructed mostly over foam, which is unlikely to shift and settle over time. The use of foam also solved the problem of adding additional weight to the arena’s structural roof.
